How small are small markets? Local market size for child care services

摘要: Abstract In this article, we propose an innovative way of delineating local markets based on easily accessible data. We apply concept to the day care industry and investigate providers' location choices relative market characteristics evaluate widespread presumption that for child services are geographically very small. Using a panel all centers metropolitan region Vienna, Austria, nearly decade, as well extremely disaggregated data spatial distribution children under age six at 250 m × 250 m grid cell level, find strongly related, but relationship diminishes soon distance between child's place residence center's increases. conclude in regions indeed small (about 500 m or 550 yards).
