Evidence of Endocrine Disruption in the Imposex-Affected Gastropod Bolinus brandaris☆

摘要: Testosterone/estradiol tissue levels and cytochrome P450-dependent aromatase activity have been evaluated in the gastropod Bolinus brandaris. Samples were collected from two locations on Mediterranean coast (St. Carles Barcelona) according to their different degrees of imposex development organotin residues. St. was chosen as a relatively clean site, only 37% females affected compared 100% Barcelona. A strong reduction estradiol seen both males organotin-polluted site comparison those reference whereas weaker differences between sites testosterone revealed. Despite observed alterations sex hormone levels, no changes recorded. These results suggest that mechanisms other than inhibition might be involved B.
