摘要: In North America and Europe, sea ducks are important indicators of ecological health inshore marine pollution. To explore spatial variation in mercury accumulation common eiders the northeastern United States, we compared concentrations total eider blood at several New England locations between 1998 2013. Eider food items (mollusks) were collected analyzed to determine if indicative local bioavailability. Eiders from Plum Island Sound, MA had a significantly higher mean concentration (0.83 μg/g) than those other locations. Mean levels this population also nearly three times any reported for published literature. We observed consistent patterns blue mussel sites, suggesting tentative predictive quality two species.
