摘要: Summary Studies of visual processing in rodents have conventionally been performed on anesthetized animals, precluding examination the effects behavior visually evoked responses. We now studied response properties neurons primary cortex awake mice that were allowed to run a freely rotating spherical treadmill with their heads fixed. Most showed more than doubling firing rate as animal transitioned from standing still running, without changes spontaneous or stimulus selectivity. Tuning similar those measured previously animals. Response magnitude lateral geniculate nucleus did not increase locomotion, demonstrating striking change responsiveness result peripheral at eye. Interestingly, some narrow-spiking cells spontaneously active during running but suppressed by stimuli. These results demonstrate powerful cell-type-specific modulation behavioral state mice.
