Environmental Effect on the UV Optical Absorption of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

摘要: We studied optical absorption of single-walled carbon nanotubes by varying the dielectric environment. For two different components broad UV feature conventionally referred to as pi-plasmon, we find that component at 5.0 - 5.3 eV exhibits remarkable spectral changes, based on which attribute this a dipolar radial surface plasmon. However, ~4.5 remains unchanged, raising fundamental question its conventional attribution. discuss relation with in graphite arising from an interband transition.
