摘要: Author(s): Breck, Stewart; Williamson, Rick; Niemeyer, Carter; Shivik, John A. | Abstract: With the reestablishment of wolves in western United States, managing adverse interactions between and livestock is re-emerging as an issue for resource managers. Lethal control often difficult to implement due constraints Endangered Species Act, predator population goals, public disfavor lethal control. In response need manage wolf predation a non-lethal manner, we developed tested behavior contingent system disrupting events. The Avian Systems Model 9000 Frightening System, also called Radio Activated Guard (RAG), activated by signals from nearby radio collars. strobe light, tape player with 30 different recorded sound effects, behaviorally activation are designed minimize habituation system. Based on studies Idaho, believe RAG boxes effective protecting small pasture situations. Limitations scare device include electronic complexity, area coverage, price. We continue develop test limitations their use ongoing experimental research.
