摘要: We examined the spatial association between baleen whales and their principal prey, Antarctic krill Euphausia superba near South Shetland Islands (Antarctic Peninsula) using data collected by US Marine Living Resources (AMLR) program during January surveys from 2003 through 2007. Whale distributions were determined ship-based visual surveys, while on distribution, abundance, demographic characteristics derived net hauls. Approximately 25 000 km of transects 500 hauls sampled over 5 yr. defined hotspots based statistical criteria to describe persistent areas occurrence both krill. Hotspots identified, length-maturity classes exhibited distinct seg- regation in distribution patterns. found that aggregated differed size structure. Humpback Megaptera novaeangliae associated with small ( 45 mm) mature located offshore. Overlapping these size-dependent dis- tributions, minke B. bonaerensis intermediate sized (35-44 mm). The correlation among different whale species swarms differing com- position presents an intriguing pattern deserves further study.
