摘要: Infant killing by primates is highly controversial. Sexual selection of infanticidal males has been disputed, especially for seasonally breeding species, in which death an infant does not advance conception the next infant. We report attacks, infants found wounded, and predation Eulemur Lemur at Berenty, Beza Mahafaly Duke University Primate Center, review cases seen elsewhere. Observed attacks leading to wounds or conservatively total twelve extratroop males, two troop seven females. are occasional vertebrate predators, whose prey includes catta. Wounds inflicted lemurs usually abdominal canine slashes bites head, with rare eating, a pattern distinct from carnivore raptor kills. as inferred corpses more frequent than previously thought, but still rare. Adaptive advantages plausibly include eliminating resource competitors females, sexual on males.
