Cultural influences in mental health help-seeking among malaysian family caregivers

摘要: Previous research has found that ethnicity and culture play a significant role in the stress coping process for family caregivers. There been limited amount of focusing on Malaysian families’ mental health concerns, yet some emerging evidence suggests caregiver’s experience living with mentally ill showed differences associated place dwelling ethnic background. The purpose this article is to describe help-seeking cultural strategy utilised by families dealing issues. In study, purposive sample 24 caregivers was interviewed explore caregivers’ their strategies reducing caregiving stress. Transcribed data were analysed using qualitative framework-analysis technique. findings study indicated still believe supernatural mystical factors when describing relatives’ illness. They used mechanisms based religious beliefs as vital managing issues illness due resources are available community. All these provide future directions better understand interaction between health, well care policies address potential community social problems cope caregiving.
