摘要: The study of bacteriophages continues to generate key information about microbial interactions in the environment. Many phenotypic characteristics cannot be examined by sequencing alone, further highlighting necessity for isolation and examination phages from environmental samples. While much our current knowledge base has been generated marine phages, freshwater viruses are understudied comparison. Our group previously conducted metagenomics-based studies samples collected Lake Michigan - data presented this relate four that were extracted same Four on bacterial host, exhibiting similar morphological as shown under transmission electron microscopy. Growth unique each isolate. Each phage demonstrated a host-range spanning several phyla bacteria – date, such broad is yet reported. Genomic reveals genomes size, close similarities between Pseudomonas PB1, however, majority annotated genes present ORFans little insight was offered into mechanisms host-range. isolated capable infecting phyla, demonstrate varied despite host preference, at genomic level. We propose likely related oligotrophic nature Michigan, competitive benefit characteristic may lend nature.
