Methods  Our study includes clinical data charges any diabetes-related health service 14 185 continually treated subjects aged < 20 years [52.5% male, mean age (SD) 12.1 (4.2) years], derived from a nationwide prospective patient documentation system (DPV). Health-care utilization was valued monetary terms by using inpatient outpatient medical fees retail prices (perspective statutory insurance). Associations between average total or various single cost categories per age, sex, migration background, duration, metabolic control were analysed multiple regression procedures two-part model hospitalization costs. Total whole population estimated. Mean as well German compared 2000 (inflated 2007). Results  diabetes-associated subject €3524 (inter-quartile range: 1831–4743). Main (32%), glucose self-monitoring (29%), insulin pump therapy (18%), (15%). Based on present estimation, exceeded €110 million 2007. Compared estimates 2000, had increased 20% 47%. Conclusions  Direct 2007, probably partly because new therapeutic strategies an increase prevalence.
