Independent component analysis for characterization and quantification of regional groundwater pumping

摘要: Summary The objective of this study is to develop a method that combines signal analysis with groundwater simulation model for the characterization and quantification regional pumping. We first use independent component identify characteristics main pumping types from hourly head observations. Then we fit drawdown variation at each observation well caused by type calibrated model. then results estimate quantity type. apply proposed aquifer system in Sijhou Township, located Jhuoshuei River alluvial fan central-western Taiwan. identifies three types: Agricultural type, Industrial A, B. All have same sine-wave shape one-day frequency, but differ peak time, valley peak-to-valley amplitude. occurs during daytime farming hours, while industrial off-peak hours take advantage much lower nighttime electricity rates. Quantitative indicate total amount 37,565 tons per day, which more than 58% agricultural use, remaining 42% use. percentage higher expected, may imply industry changing. large takes place depths 40 m. For further investigation, installation monitoring wells recommended deeper aquifers.
