摘要: The emergence of the basement membrane (BM), a specialized form extracellular matrix, was essential in unicellular transition to multicellularity. However, mechanism is unknown. Goodpasture antigen-binding protein (GPBP), BM protein, uniquely poised play diverse roles this owing its multiple isoforms (GPBP-1, -2, and -3) with varied intracellular functions (ceramide trafficker kinase). We sought determine evolutionary origin GPBP isoforms. Our findings reveal presence protists, GPBP-2 as most ancient isoform. In vertebrates, GPBP-1 assumed function that further enhanced by membrane-bound GPBP-3 mammalians, whereas retained function. Moreover, possesses dual intracellular/extracellular cnidarians, an early nonbilaterian group. conclude functioning both inside outside cell fundamental importance for animal multicellularity tissue evolution.
