摘要: The purpose of this study was to characterize the interactive effects light and aging on physicochemical properties antimicrobial activity nanocrystalline silver wound dressings Acticoat that might find their way into environment. Nanocrystalline films deposited high-density polyethylene were exposed a source mimics natural daylight for various time lengths characterized using atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron (SEM), photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), secondary ion mass (SIMS). Bactericidal efficacy measured log reduction assay. A change in color from dark blue purple then brown observed after exposure light. attributed an increase surface roughness as emphasized by AFM imaging. decrease oxide thickness followed sulfide carbonate content during SIMS analysis. Interestingly, XPS analysis confirmed result breakage Ag–O bonds formation matrix. Even though four weeks maintained its bactericidal capacity, changes (grain growth, chemical composition changes) suggest given sufficient time, should deactivate
