The care needs of Pakistani families caring for disabled children: how relevant is cultural competence?

摘要: Abstract Objective To identify factors that Pakistani parents living in the UK and caring for children with learning disabilities felt were important components of their care to discuss relevance concept cultural competence light these findings. Design A qualitative study taking a constructivist approach gain insight into participants’ experiences health provision. In depth interviews used explore ways which personal understandings life shaped characteristics therapeutic encounter participants identified as important. Data analysed thematically. Setting Northern city England. Interviews took place participant's homes or work places. Participants Eleven one grandparent from nine different families, all disabilities. Findings The features highlighted there is nothing suggest are those majority population. Conclusions utility may be limited where it depends on concepts ethnic groups relatively fixed distinct clearly defined sets beliefs behaviours. Physiotherapists cannot prejudge status behaviours an individual's status. Instead need actively seek relevant practice. addition service providers must develop operate systems ensure access, use quality same at point delivery regardless patient ethnicity.
