摘要: Mesh contamination is the most feared postoperative complication after ventral herniorrhaphy. The morbidity significant requiring additional operative procedures for debridement or complete removal of prosthesis. From July 1998 to December 2007, a retrospective review was performed evaluate incidence mesh infection in patients undergoing an elective, open intra-abdominal sublay technique repair using composite polypropylene and expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (Composix, Davol, Inc., Cranston, RI). There were 206 involving open, intraperitoneal placement Composix resulting 21 infections (10.2%). majority secondary Staphylococcus aureus (76%), over half infected with MRSA. All patients, except two, required removal. Reoperation recurrent defect necessary 67 per cent. Two MRSA subsequently reinfected their repair. Overall, group 44 (mean 2.1 procedures/patient). risk reduced lighter density, newer generation (7.3% vs 14.5%). herniorrhaphy conveys morbidity. An intraabdominal underlay ePTFE carries real should be reconsidered.
