Perceptions and valuation of GM food: A study on the impact and importance of information provision

摘要: Abstract Given the scientific uncertainties and differing arguments for against genetically modified food, perceptions valuation may depend on information about their different conflicting potential effects. In this study we explore generic attitudes towards organisms, particularly in adopt an economic contingent approach to highlight relevance of provision. The focuses young college students, who are more scientifically informed than rest population. It explores exposes respondents randomly three treatments concerning organisms’ impacts (negative, positive or mixed). Applying methodology allows us expose individuals a situation where they can express willingness accept ingredient exchange lower prices. We observe that exposing critical kind food negatively affects valuations, whereas mixed have no impact. Albeit conclusions limited terms generalizability population, results suggest there still be scope Furthermore, both policy-makers firms benefit from public. Policy-makers gauge public opinion legitimize policy options shape market decisions based stable consumer preferences.
