摘要: Abstract Euphorbia lathyris is a latex-bearing plant which has received widespread attention as possible source of liquid fuels. A three-year research programme was undertaken in order to evaluate the species an arid lands energy crop. Agricultural requirements have been qualitatively determined. When grown winter crop E. used 71 cm water, corresponding irrigation requirement approximately 100 cm, produce maximum 15 tons dry biomass and equivalent 7·5 bbl crude oil hectare −1 . Assessment world collection germplasm showed genetic variability amount high-energy extractables produced by be low, indicating that rapid development improved strains through breeding unlikely. Genetic, agronomic chemical data from this indicate unsuitable for culture plant's overall potential may limited.
