Model Output Statistics Forecasts: Three Years of Operational Experience in the Netherlands

摘要: Abstract In the Netherlands, one to five day Model Output Statistics (MOS) forecasts have been used operationally since November 1983. The weather elements predicted are probability of precipitation, conditional frozen thunderstorms, sunshine, maximum and minimum temperature wind speed. For development guidance system, two year ECMWF data (December 1980–November 1982) were used, while a third was available as test period. period December 1983–November 1986 has for verification. Operational forecasters MOS forecast preparation their final forecasts. results subjective presented intercompared in this paper. From comparison it appears that higher skill scores only Days 1 2; 3, 4 5 differences are, general, small.
