Monthly maps of sea surface dissolved inorganic carbon in the North Pacific: Basin‐wide distribution and seasonal variation

摘要: [1] We produced 84 monthly maps of sea surface dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) concentration for the North Pacific from 2002 to 2008. The estimated DIC agrees well with observed research vessels at fixed time series stations (root-mean-square error 10.2 μmol kg−1). spatial distribution 7 year annual mean corresponds salinity and ocean circulation. We explored seasonal variation by categorizing into 10 areal clusters. decrease March July was captured: more than 120 kg−1 in northwest, but less 40 subtropics. After subtracting effects air-sea CO2 flux change, residual can be considered as net community production (NCP): 14 mmolC m−2 d−1 boundary region between subtropics subarctic extending east coast Japan date line, 8 coastal subarctic, 4–8 offshore subarctic. NCP 20–30% satellite-derived primary production.
