Intraoperative Evaluation of the Extrahepatic Biliary Tree and Ampulla of Vater

摘要: Most carcinomas of the extrahepatic bile ducts and ampulla Vater are diagnosed prior to surgery, so intraoperative consultations usually concern evaluation resection margins. However, a primary diagnosis malignancy may be made at time frozen section in rare cases, particularly when preoperative biopsy specimens from biliary strictures nondiagnostic. Inflammatory diseases that affect can cause simulate carcinoma pancreatobiliary specimens. The purpose this chapter is (1) discuss gross histologic features benign malignant duct lesions encountered during consultations, (2) address issues related margins specimens, (3) review ampullary neoplasms their mimics.
