摘要: The n=3 Aurivillius material Bi{sub 2}Sr{sub 2}Nb{sub 2.5}Fe{sub 0.5}O{sub 12} is investigated and combined structural refinements using neutron powder diffraction (NPD) X-ray data (XRPD) reveal that the adopts a disordered, tetragonal (I4/mmm) structure at temperatures down to 2 K. Significant ordering of Fe{sup 3+} Nb{sup 5+} over two B sites observed possible driving forces for this are discussed. Some disorder Sr{sup 2+} Bi{sup M A found consistent with relieving strain due size mismatch. Highly anisotropic thermal parameters some oxygen suggest local may be slightly distorted rotation octahedra. Magnetic measurements show behaves as Curie-Weiss paramagnet in temperature range studied no evidence any long-range magnetic interactions. Solid solutions including 3-x}Sr{sub x}Nb{sub 2}FeO{sub 12}, 2-x}La{sub 3-x}Fe{sub x}O{sub were but single-phase materials only successfully synthesised narrow composition system. - Graphical abstract: We report here synthesis characterisation Bi{submore » 12}.
