摘要: Paragangliomas have a classical histomorphology comprising so-called "Zellballen" or nesting pattern with surrounding S100 protein positive sustentacular cells (SC) which form meshwork wire-fence appearance. In adrenal and extra-adrenal paragangliomas the prevalence of SC is inversely associated patients' outcome. order to get more insight into as well prognostic differential diagnostic value this cell population in pulmonary carcinoids, we investigated panel 26 tumorlets, 147 typical atypical carcinoids ten thoracic immunohistochemically. We were able demonstrate that are similarly distributed both carcinoids. Hence, presence distribution these does not appear represent reliable criterion diagnosis. Moreover, all carcinoid patients worse outcome had low numbers no their tissue specimens. Thus, may potentially aid assessment especially biopsies.
