摘要: The pinching forces of crustaceans are in many respects analogous to the biting vertebrates. We examined effects body size and chelae shape, on closing fiddler crab, Uca pugilator, crayfish, Procambarus clarkii. hypothesized that allometric relationships would be similar among species, comparable those reported for other decapod crustaceans. further scaling crustaceans, with respect geometry or structures, found increased mass, claw dimensions, mass U. but only height P. Contraction time both species combined, whereas contraction speed decreased. Pooled data these 17 crustacean revealed a positive correlation between force exponent 0.71. These remarkably values vertebrate jaws, pooled having 0.58, slightly below value 0.67 predicted geometric similarity. Maximum vary tremendously animals general, food habits being most important determining factors.
