摘要: Abstract Purpose Total alloplastic temporomandibular joint (TMJ) reconstruction is often necessary because of the significant bony destruction resulting from failed Proplast-Teflon (Vitek, Houston, TX) and/or Silastic (Dow Corning, Arlington, foreign body inflammatory reactions. Multiply operated and functionless, TMJ patients likewise have undergone total reconstruction. Many these were also exposed to implant materials. It was purpose this study evaluate a population representative both groups reconstructed with Techmedica (now, Concepts, Ventura, CA) System determine whether long-term subjective objective outcomes affected by either presence previously materials, number prior procedures, or both. Patients methods One hundred ninety-eight who had been implanted 332 joints between 1990 1994 where divided into 4 based on their exposure materials: group I, (82 patients, 135 joints); II, (28 46 III, (25 IV, no (63 105 joints). The mean follow-up 60.2 ± 40.3 months (range, 2 120 months). To materials outcome variables, compared statistically using multivariate mixed modeling age, sex, operations, years problem, type, sides as independent relevant baseline measure covariates. Results For significantly higher pain scores long-term. type material not regard function. reported poorer diet consistency Objectively, 5 fewer surgeries neither better maximum interincisal opening than did those However, for 6 more surgeries, less decrease in over time. Conclusion These data confirm what has observed clinically, that studied, multiply alone devices used remained functional.
