摘要: LaVO3 and YVO3 are intermediate between LaTiO3 (metallic Pauli paramagnetic) LaCrO3 (an insulator antiferromagnetic below TN=320°K). Single crystals of these vanadites were grown from the melt by a modified Bridgman technique. The temperature dependences electrical resistivity indicate that both materials semiconductors in range 120°–670°K. However, activation energies for semiconduction considerably lower than those reported literature powder specimens. Magnetic susceptibilities reveal ordering at 137° 110°K YVO3, respectively. undergoes structural transition Neel point is suggestive spin‐orbit‐coupling electron ordering. These results clearly support localized‐electron model low temperatures. temperatures above TN probably reflect covalent‐mixing parameter λ near critical value λc localized vs collective behavior.
