摘要: Abstract Objective: To examine the effects of age on outcome in persons with traumatic brain injury. Design: Longitudinal cohort design. Setting: Level I trauma center. Patients: A total 411 hospitalized subjects mild to severe injury prospectively studied 1 year; their range was 18 89 years. Main Outcome Measures: Glasgow Scale, living situation, and employment. Results: Increasing is associated increasing levels psychosocial limitations, especially 60 years older. Part reason greater severity sustained by older as reflected longer coma (despite equivalent initial depth) numbers complications surgeries for subdural hematomas. However, consequences injuries appear worsen at each level examined, including milder injuries. Conclusions: Older adults clearly show less complete recovery year after than younger adults, either because they have reduced reserves which tolerate or physiologic status creates a more destructive Coma Scale alone may underestimate aged well its consequences. Caution advised generalizing findings based principally individuals
