摘要: Caucasian bluestem [CBS; Bothriochloa caucasica (Trin.) C.E. Hubbard 'Caucasian'] appears adapted to the mid-Atlantic region. Three experiments, one with sheep and two steers, were conducted assess hay quality. In Experiment (Exp.) 1, initial growth was cut at early boot, anthesis, postanthesis regrowth boot anthesis (five treatments) evaluated by wether sheep. All treatments, except also in a preliminary experiment steers. Exp. 2, same three stages as 1 Sheep readily ate CBS hay, consuming 1.88 kg 100 ―1 body weight (BW) when apparent dry matter digestion (DMD) of 647 g . Intake decreased linearly 1.45 BW DMD 548 Steers early-boot averaging 2.49 661 1.48 589 steer intake well correlated (r = 0.951; P 0.05) 0.939; 0.06). steers consumed 2.73 for 670 declined 1.57 517 Hays can provide desirable quality animal production systems if it is stage region United States.
