Research Notes on Villagers' Committee Election: Chinese-style democracy

摘要: This paper is based on a field trip to Hunan Province in 1996, as part of research project I am undertaking how the introduction village self‐government and direct elections at level has affected political life, culture, public sphere(s) rural areas. It gives descriptive first‐hand account an election villagers’ committee meeting, relating it general background recent reform China's then offers tentative analysis democratization implications this reform.
