摘要: The review is a critical appraisal of the history and present status phenomenon adult hippocampal neurogenesis (AHN) in mammalian human brain. Previous as well most current studies AHN have focused on highly inbred domestic mice rats that are examined rigorously controlled laboratory environments using psychology-based behavioral tests. However, this approach cannot reveal adaptive significance AHN, key unresolved question field. After publication several thousand articles field over last 20 years, little progress has been made our understanding biological utility real world. To accomplish will require comparative employing greater diversity species species-specific behaviors investigated more naturalistic, evolutionary context. Although efforts along these lines rise, they remain "voices wilderness." This an attempt to hasten increase those efforts.
