Gender differences in excessive daytime sleepiness among Japanese workers.

摘要: Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) is serious concern in the workplace with respect to errors, accidents, absenteeism, reduced productivity and impaired personal or professional life. Previous community studies found a female preponderance of EDS, however, there little research on EDS gender occupational settings. We examined differences prevalence risk factors among employees working at telecommunications company Tokyo metropolitan area. Our outcome measure was Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS). A self-administered questionnaire health sleep including ESS distributed 5571 workers between December 1999 January 2000, 5072 responses were returned (91.0%). total 4722 full-time, non-manual non-shift aged 20–59 used for analysis (3909 men 813 women). Chi-squared tests multiple logistic regression analyses applied examining EDS. The rates 13.3% women 7.2% (P<0.001). identified that deprived nocturnal sleep, an irregular sleep-wake schedule depression both genders, being married worked as protective factor against alone. It obvious ban overtime work provision mental hygiene are general strategies reducing worksites. In case women, we suggest formation effective improving women’s status home must also be solution prevention (e.g. promoting equality division labor strengthening family care policies
