A Survey of Chinese Citizens’ Perceptions on Farm Animal Welfare

摘要: Farm animal welfare has been gradually recognized as an important issue in most parts of the world. In China, domestic animals were traditionally raised backyard and treated component family wealth. Industrialization production brings forth farm concerns recently yet modern concept not publicized a comprehensive recognition on how consumers farmers perceive is lacking. Therefore, we conducted survey public opinions toward based pigs (including sows, piglets, fattening pigs), fowls layers broilers) their products. From 6,006 effective questionnaires approximately two thirds respondents had never heard ‘animal welfare’; 72.9% claimed that, for sake derived food safety, human beings should improve rearing conditions fowls; 65.8% totally or partly agreed establishing laws to welfare; more than half willing, some extent pay high-welfare products, whereas 45.5% willing reluctant more. summary, still its early stage development efforts are needed conception process standards legislations China.
