摘要: Despite the alarming trends of declining base cation concentrations in boreal lakes, no studies have attempted to predict consequences this decline on geochemical cycle mercury, a top priority contaminant worldwide. In study, we used whole-cell gram-negative bioreporter evaluate direction and magnitude changes net accumulation HgII by bacteria response changing concentrations. We show that regardless speciation solution, increasing divalent decrease bioreporter, suggesting protective effect these cations. Our work suggests complexity cell wall must be considered when modeling Hg uptake pathways; propose cations contribute hamper decreasing outer membrane permeability and, therefore, passive diffusion species periplasmic space.
