摘要: Sodium monofluoroacetate (1080) is a highly toxic vertebrate pesticide that has been widely used for possum and rabbit control in New Zealand since the 1950s. Because of its importance pest nature this compound, environmental fate, persistence, non-target impacts general toxicology have continue to be extensively studied. A series vitro (cell culture) laboratory animal studies (in rats mice) recently undertaken update regulatory database 1080. Results three different, complementary tests indicate 1080 not mutagenic, therefore unlikely cause cancer. developmental toxicity causes defects when pregnant females are exposed relatively high doses (0.33 0.75 mg kg day) on daily basis during period organogenesis (from days 6 through 17 gestation). The abnormalities observed were mild skeletal effects: slightly curved forelimbs, bent or “wavy” ribs. These results highlight need extreme care handling manufacture distribution bait, but do preclude proper use. morphological changes foetuses completed rat likely raise concern regarding exposure humans (particularly mothers) contamination waterways after aerial sowing baits. However, ongoing monitoring (1990–98) from areas where baits aerially sown confirms there negligible risk human contact with route exposure. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
