摘要: A door-to-door survey was conducted within the limits of suburb Douglas in northern Queensland, Australia, to determine prevalence feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) infection overall population domestic cats. Previous FIV studies have relied on convenience sampling strategies, leaving out an important group pet cats that do not receive regular veterinary attention. Saliva selected for testing because collection non-invasive and likely achieve a high rate participation. Ninety-six were surveyed tested salivary antibodies against with real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). PCR considered be gold standard cat FIV-positive if sequencing results product appropriate size matched previously published genome sequences available GenBank. Results showed 10/96 infected subtype A, indicating 10.4% (95% confidence interval: 4.4-16.4) area studied. High risk associations established roaming lifestyle (P <0.002), presence abscesses <0.03) occurrence bite wounds <0.10). This is first known cross-sectional study urban Australian living affluent presenting saliva as potential sample large-scale epidemiological surveys FIV.
