摘要: Conveying shape using feature lines is an important visualization tool in visual computing. The existing (e.g., ridges, valleys, silhouettes, suggestive contours, etc.) are solely determined by local geometry properties normals and curvatures) as well the view position. This paper strongly inspired observation human vision perception that a sudden change luminance plays critical role to faithfully represent recover 3D information. In particular, we adopt edge detection techniques image processing for present photic extremum (PELs) which emphasize significant variations of illumination over surfaces. Comparing with lines, PELs more flexible offer users freedom achieve desirable effects. addition, user can easily control changing light position, number sources, choosing various models. We compare approaches demonstrate PEL effective illustrate surface volume
