摘要: OBJECTIVES—To describe the amount and patterns of ambulatory activity in hospitalized older adults over consecutive hospital days. DESIGN—Observational cohort study. SETTING—University teaching Acute Care for Elderly (ACE) unit. PARTICIPANTS—Adults aged 65 (N = 239) who wore a step monitor during their stay. MEASUREMENTS—Total number steps per 24-hour day. Mean daily were calculated based on days was worn. RESULTS—Mean age 76.6 ± 7.6; 55.1% participants female. Patients took mean 739.7 (interquartile range 89–1,014) day with shorter stays tended to ambulate more first complete hospitalization had markedly greater increase mobility second than patients longer lengths There no significant differences according illness severity or reason admission. CONCLUSION—Objective information patient can be collected persons. Findings may understanding level ambulation required maintain functional status promote recovery from acute illness.
