摘要: The rapid pace of species discovery outstrips the rate description in many taxa. This problem is especially acute for Caenorhabditis nematodes, where naming distinct would greatly improve their visibility and usage biological research, given thousands scientists studying Caenorhabditis. Species has been hampered Caenorhabditis, part due to presence morphologically cryptic despite complete reproductive isolation often enormous molecular divergence. With aim expediting designations, here we propose apply a revised framework diagnosis this group. Our solution prioritizes over traditional morphological characters as key feature delineating diagnosing new species, reflecting both practical considerations conceptual justifications. DNA sequence divergence criteria help prioritize crosses establishing patterns among known science, such with ribosomal internal transcribed spacer-2 (ITS2) barcode. By adopting approach, provide name designations 15 thus increasing number named laboratory culture by nearly 3-fold. We anticipate that improved accessibility these research community will expand opportunities study accelerate our understanding diverse phenomena.
