摘要: Abstract On the basis of X-ray and neutron powder diffraction data substantiated by nuclear magnetic resonance measurements a crystal structure for Li5B4 is proposed. The proposed rhombohedral (R3m) with = 4.93 A 90° but it disordered in such way that its long range symmetry body-centered cubic ( I 4 3m ) . Within short order boron atoms (in units 4) form planar clusters central atom surrounded three others. This configuration has no counterpart either metal borides or hydrides. lithium cluster trigonal bipyramids (two tetrahedra sharing common face) five at vertices. similar to found low temperature hexagonal lithium.
