International study comparing cefdinir and cefuroxime axetil in the treatment of patients with acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis.

摘要: Abstract Objectives: To assess the efficacy and tolerability of three antibiotic regimens in patients with acute exacerbation chronic bronchitis. Methods: In this double-blind, randomized, multicentered, parallel-group study, received once-daily cefdinir 600 mg, twice-daily 300 or cefuroxime axetil 250 mg for 10 days. Primary measures were microbiologic eradication rate, by pathogen patient, clinical response patient. Results: Of 1045 patients, 589 evaluable efficacy. At baseline, most had moderate severe cough sputum production as well rhonchi, wheezing, dyspnea. The rates 90% cefdinir, 85% 88% cefuroxime. corresponding values rate patient (once-daily cefdinir), (twice-daily 86% cefuroxime). respective 81%, 74%, 80%. There no significant differences incidence drug-related adverse events discontinuations due to events. Diarrhea was frequent complaint. Conclusions: results indicate that once twice daily, comparable between used.
