摘要: The Alboran Basin in the westernmost Mediterranean hosts orogenic boundary between Iberian and African plates. Although numerous geophysical studies of crustal structure onshore Iberia have been carried out during last decade, has comparatively poorly studied. We analyze crustal‐scale images a grid new reprocessed multichannel seismic profiles showing tectonic variations reflective character crust basin. nature distinct domains ground‐truthed using available basement samples from drilling dredging. Our results reveal four different types ‐domains‐ Basin: a) thin continental underneath West Malaga basins, which transitions to b) magmatic arc central part Sea East Basin, c) North‐African containing Pytheas Habibas sub‐basins, d) oceanic transition towards Algero‐Balearic Basin. is configured fore‐arc basin (West basins), (central Alboran), back‐arc system easternmost mainly influenced by arc‐related magmatism along its edge, was probably affected strike‐slip tectonics westward migration Miocene subduction system. distribution active structures current compressional setting generally corresponds boundaries domains, possibly representing inherited lithospheric‐scale weak structures.
