HIV prevention with jail and prison inmates: Maryland's Prevention Case Management program.

摘要: Prevalence of HIV infection and AIDS cases is higher among inmates correctional facilities than the general population, especially for female inmates. This creates a strong need effective prevention with this population. Maryland's Prevention Case Management (PCM) program provides individual or group counseling to nearing release promote changes in risk behavior. Pretest posttest surveys assess perceived risk, condom attitudes, use self-efficacy, self-efficacy reduce injection drug other substance behavioral intentions during participation program. Client contact logs, kept by counselors, document number duration sessions, specific modules, completed participants. Over 4-year period, PCM records identified 2,610 participants Pre-intervention postintervention data were available 745 participants, client log 529 (71%) these individuals. Significant, positive found self-reported use, practice safer sex post-release. Inmate populations are crucial audience HIV/AIDS testing, treatment, efforts.
