摘要: Elderly individuals have the highest burden of disease from influenza infection but also lowest immune response to vaccination. A better understanding host vaccination in elderly is therefore urgently needed. We conducted a biphasic prospective, population-based study Dec. 2014 May 2015 (pilot study) and Sept. 2016 (main study). Individuals 65-80 y age were randomly selected residents' registration office Hannover, Germany, for pilot (n = 34) main 200). The tested recruitment arms featuring 2, 4, or 5 visits/blood draws. 5-visit (day 0, 1/3, 7, 21, 70 with respect vaccination) arm was study. Both studies featured Fluad™ (Novartis, Italy), detailed medical history, physical exam, recording adverse events, completion questionnaire on common infections an end-of-study questionnaire, blood samples. Response rates 3.7% 4.0%, respectively. Willingness participate did not differ among (Fisher's exact test, p 0.44). In both studies, there no losses follow-up. Compliance visits, sampling questionnaires very high (100%, >97%, 100%, respectively), as participants' acceptance satisfaction phases low indicate need optimized strategies if population be representative general population. Nonetheless, complex prospective design proved highly feasible.
