摘要: Traditionally, the bulk of surface marine observations have come from merchant ships. The primary purpose these data has been for use in weather forecasting. However there numerous attempts to map meteorological and air-sea flux fields. Now, with desire better understand ocean’s role global climate, is great need make such maps, do so accurately. Unfortunately, shipboard are mainly limited major shipping routes can exhibit significant errors associated sensors, sensor placement, air flow disturbance. Furthermore, few ships equipped measure shortwave longwave radiative fluxes, which instead be estimated rudimentary cloud descriptions. As a result, uncertainties ship-based climatolgies large.
