The Puzzle of 'Idle' Children: Neither in School nor performing Economic Activity: Evidence from six Countries

摘要: This paper presents a set of descriptive statistics on the observed group children that neither attends school nor performs economic activity. Drawing datasets from six countries, evidence is provided suggesting can be absent both and activity because they are needed to perform household chores, their health, or unable find work after having left school. But large proportion not in does fall into any these categories. A simple theoretical model decisions concerning children's time allocations presented an attempt account for this 'unexplained' portion
