Music’s Relevance for People Affected by Cancer: A Meta-Ethnography and Implications for Music Therapists

摘要: BACKGROUND: Evidence supports music-based oncologic support interventions including music therapy. By comparison, little is understood about self-care. This meta-ethnography examined five published qualitative studies to extend understanding of music's relevance, helpfulness, for people affected by cancer; children, adolescents, and adults with cancer, carers, the bereaved. OBJECTIVE: To improve broad relevance those cancer. METHODS: Meta-ethnography strategies informed analysis. Five were synthesized that included 138 participants: 26 children 28 parents 12 adolescents young 52 carers; 8 Studies' category thematic findings compared integrated into third-order interpretations, a line argument. Perspectives from illuminated argument developed. RESULTS: Music usage can remain incidental, continue normally, and/or change because cancer's harsh effects. be lifeline, biopsychosocial spiritual well-being, or become elusive, is, difficult experience. helps intrudes it extends self-awareness social connections, prompts play, memories, imageries, legacies. therapists may help patients carers recover helpful CONCLUSIONS: Cancer care improved through offering resources/services, which give cancer opportunities personal and, patients. advocate such resources educate health professionals assessing/recognizing when patients' carers' changed behaviors signify additional needs.
