摘要: Abstract Two cationic chelating polymers, namely synthetic polyethylenimine (PEI), and biopolymer chitosan were employed in the present study to bring about retention of anionic reactive red 120 (RR 120) from its aqueous solutions by way polymer enhanced ultrafiltration (PEUF). The effects process parameters, namely, cross-flow rate, transmembrane pressure, time, polyelectrolyte loading, ionic strength on dye permeation flux examined. PEI achieved retentions as high 99.9%, significant fluxes around 148 L/m 2  h. However, case chitosan, relatively low (88%), (120 L/m  h) levels observed. A careful comparison changes induced UV–vis spectra RR indicated a predominant electrostatic interaction between 120, opposed weak sterically well chemically hindered ion. respective binding constants PEI-RR PEI–chitosan complexes, addition more pronounced decline witnessed presence clearly advocated use PEI, rather than most appropriate complexing agent context.
