摘要: Abstract In vitro colony growth was studied on bone marrow cells from 51 patients with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), using a cell culture method the unique feature of daily feeding, in an effort to gain insight into pathophysiology MDS and assess clinical utility this assay. The pattern is remarkably similar that acute myeloid leukemia but quite dissimilar normal marrow, support common pathophysiological mechanism for these two disorders. particular, l-ascorbic acid (LAA) enhanced 30% suppressed 16% cases, finding also leukemia, indicating requirement which may be explored therapeutic purposes. Further, LAA effects have prognostic value, LAA-sensitive (both LAA-enhanced LAA-suppressed) cases displaying shorter survivals than LAA-insensitive (median survival 5 months versus 18 months; P = 0.011). This value independent of, more powerful than, blasts; median 5% blasts ( 0.044). These risk factors can used together identify extremely good or poor prognosis. study establishes usefulness effect as factor provides new lead explore understanding differential biochemical/molecular events and, possibly, approach management MDS.
