摘要: Differences in the temporal fine structure (TFS) of sounds at two ears are used for sound localization and perceptual analysis complex auditory scenes. The ability to process this binaural TFS information is poorer older than younger participants, may contribute age-related declines understand speech noisy situations. However, it unclear how sensitivity changes across age range. This article presents data a test TFS, "TFS-adaptive frequency" (AF) test, 118 listeners aged 60 96 years with normal or near-normal low-frequency hearing, but variety patterns hearing loss higher frequencies. TFS-AF scores were significantly lower (i.e., poorer) those young adults. On average, decreased by about 162 Hz each 10-year increase over range 85 years. Individual variability increased increasing age. Scores also declined as audiometric thresholds worsened. results illustrate that can be obtained function useful diagnosis management difficulties.
