摘要: Abstract The methanolic extract of rhizomes Cyperus articulatus, a plant used in traditional medicine Africa and Latin America for many diseases, possesses anticonvulsant activity mice. This protected mice against maximal electroshock (MES)- pentylenetetrazol (PTZ)-induced seizures. It also delayed the onset seizures induced by isonicotinic acid hydrazide strongly antagonized N-methyl- d -aspartate-induced turning behavior. ED50 protection was 306 (154–541) mg/kg intraperitoneally (i.p.) PTZ test 1005 (797–1200) i.p. MES test. behavior 875 (623–1123) C. articulatus L. 54% from strychnine at dose 1000 but had no or moderate effect only picrotoxin- bicuculline-induced With these effects, rhizome properties animals that might explain its use as epilepsy Africa.
